Solar Eclipse 2025 live stream and how to watch it online

Sky watchers are in for a treat this weekend as a stunning Solar Eclipse takes place.

On Saturday morning, the Moon will appear to ‘take a bite’ out of the Sun as it passes between our home star and the Earth

As a result, parts of the UK could see up to 50 per cent of the Sun’s disc covered up.

The greatest eclipse, where about 93 per cent of the sun will be covered by the Moon, will be seen from eastern parts of Canada, according to the tracking website Time and Date.

In Manchester, around 36 per cent of the Sun will be covered by the Moon.

The eclipse will start at around 10am, with maximum coverage in the UK at around 11am. The eclipse will end at around 12pm.

Ahead of the eclipse, people were warned not to look directly at the Sun during an eclipse, as it can cause serious eye injury.

Despite the Moon blocking some of the Sun’s rays, the light is still far too bright for our eyes to handle, and looking at an eclipse could cause permanent damage.

And even if you have safety glasses to view the Sun during the eclipse, the weather may put a dampner on things.

The Met Office said viewing chances will be best in the east where skies remain clearest, whilst cloud will be spreading into western regions. Northern England and most of Scotland is expected to be covered by cloud.

As a result, if you want to watch the full eclipse from the comfort of your own home or on your phone, then it is being streamed live on YouTube which you can watch here or below.

The next partial solar eclipse visible from Manchester will be in August 2026, when 89 per cent of the Sun will be covered, according to the HPAG.

After that, there will be others visible in August 2027, January 2028 and June 2030 but no more until August 2036.

The next total solar eclipse won’t be visible from the UK until 2090.
