DAMATURU – In a bid to address the perennial water scarcity in communities across Yobe State, the North East Development Commission (NEDC) has commenced the inspection of solar-powered boreholes constructed in various communities along Damaturu to Fune.
The Executive Director of Administration and Finance, Dr Abubakar Garba Iliya, who represented the Managing Director/CEO, Muhammad G. Alkali, during the inspection, said the water projects aim to provide sustainable access to clean water for the communities.
Dr. Iliya explained that each of the NEDC Community Boreholes (NCB) features a 10,000-gallon overhead tank, two dedicated water points on a concrete slab, a dedicated operational switch, and wall fences, ensuring efficient and reliable water supply.
The solar-powered system, according to Dr. Iliya, minimizes reliance on costly energy sources, addressing water scarcity while promoting sustainability.
During the inspection, Dr Iliya interacted with community leaders, reaffirming the Commission’s commitment to delivering the water projects across all local government areas in the region promptly.
Some of the communities visited include Abbari Nasarawa, Pompomari Makabarta, Works Extension, and Blind School Damagum.
The inspection team included the NEDC’s GM Admin & HR, Alh. Abdulkadir Kadai Usman, PM Facility Mangt. Idriss Garba, Yobe State Coordinator Professor Ali Ibrahim Abbas, and other staff and consultants of the Commission.
