…Three members of vigilance group also killed
Suspected armed bandits on Saturday attacked farmers at Rinyan village in Tahoss community of Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing one woman and injuring another.
The attack occurred at about 3:50 p.m. while the victims were working on their farm, according to local sources.
The deceased was identified as Hudung Luka, 40, who was reportedly shot dead by the assailants.
Another victim, Ladi Istifanus, 50, sustained gunshot injuries and was rushed to a medical facility for treatment.
A member of the community, Bulus Rop, confirmed the incident, saying the attackers stormed the farm and opened fire on the women before fleeing the scene.
Rop described the attack as another tragic incident in the continuing wave of violence targeting farming communities in Riyom Local Government Area.
He called on security agencies to intensify efforts to protect rural communities and bring the perpetrators to justice.
In a related development, three members of a local vigilance group were also killed on Saturday night after suspected gunmen attacked Sabon-Layi community in Gwol District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The attack, which occurred at about 10 p.m., renewed concerns over the persistent insecurity in the area.
According to community sources, the assailants stormed the community under the cover of darkness and targeted vigilante members who were on duty protecting residents.
Rwang Tengwong, the spokesperson for the Berom Youth Moulders Association confirmed the incident, describing the killings as a direct assault on the community’s efforts to defend lives and property.
He said the slain vigilance group members were part of a local security arrangement established to protect residents from the recurring attacks that have plagued the area.
Tengwong lamented the worsening security situation in Barkin Ladi, saying residents continue to live in fear despite the presence of security personnel.
