They are inseparable. For now, only in victories, because they do not know what it is like to lose at this Euro. Perhaps Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal were not the protagonists of a semi-final qualification where Dani Olmo and Cucurella shone to knock Germany out of the Euro (2-1). It does not matter. The victory in the quarter-finals against the host country must be celebrated. And they did it as kids their age usually do, with a photo posted on their social networks.

It was Yamal who uploaded the image. The two La Roja players appear taking a selfie, with the mobile phone held by Nico. Smiling, shirtless and with their fists raised, in the locker room, they celebrate the transfer with their followers. “Come on damn it,” the Barça player commented in a text accompanying the photo, in which the Athletic player is tagged, who also shared the post on his Instagram.

It is another nod to the beautiful friendship that unites both internationals. They steal the spotlight with their constant gestures of complicity. Celebrations with dancing included, the paper-scissors game… A connection that they also showed in Spain’s first goal against Germany, that of Dani Olmo, hugging each other and expressing complete happiness. And when they were substituted, they watched the match together on the bench. Inseparable.

It was a moment for eternity. On September 10th, the German basketball players won the world championship title for the first time in Manila with an 87:77 win against favorites Serbia. The era of national coach Gordon Herbert (65/retiring after Paris) is now set to be crowned at the Olympics in Paris.

This week, all the World Cup heroes met again for the first time at the training camp in Munich.

“It was a historic summer last year. I think we were obviously happy when we saw each other,” said captain Dennis Schröder (30). “But we were also in contact during the season, even privately. That’s just something special.”

From Munich, the team went on to Düsseldorf for the official Olympic kit fitting. And from there, finally, to Cologne. The first tough test will take place on Saturday (4 p.m., live on MagentaSport) in front of 18,000 fans in the sold-out Lanxess Arena – against host France with the new superstar Victor Wembanyama (20).

But before that, Schröder had a very special surprise for his teammates…

A generous gesture from Schröder, who also treated himself to an MVP ring (in the style of American championship rings) and a sparkling diamond with his jersey number 17.

Schröder has already earned more than $90 million (€83 million) in his career. His current contract of $26 million (€24 million) per year with the Brooklyn Nets has one more season to run.

Before the first showdown, the Braunschweig native once again emphasized the team’s special cohesion: “In the German national team, we have no egos. That’s the biggest reason why we’re so good. It doesn’t matter if I score four points and we win, or if Franz (Wagner) or Daniel (Theis) score 20 points. Everyone is happy when we win.”

A glance at your wrist is now enough as a reminder!

Fine for Bernard for kiss

The world cycling association did not take any lightly to Julien Bernard’s personal triumph in the individual time trial of the Tour de France on Friday. The UCI fined the Frenchman 200 Swiss francs for inappropriate behavior during the race and damage to the image of the sport.

On the climb in Curley, not far from his hometown of Dijon, Bernard rode through thousands of cheering fans who had cheered him on with countless posters. At the end of the line, the professional cyclist stopped by his wife and son and gave them a kiss. Bernard, who plays no role in the overall ranking, then continued his ride.

“I would pay the 200 francs again at any time to experience this moment again. I knew that my wife and my friends would organize something on the climb. It was a dream moment. I enjoyed it,” said the 32-year-old.

Meanwhile, former cycling world champion Mads Pedersen dropped out shortly before the start of the eighth stage due to the consequences of a fall three days earlier. His team Lidl-Trek announced this on Saturday. His 28-year-old teammate Bernards fought through the following days of racing, but the pain in his left shoulder did not improve. He has won two stages of the Tour so far in his career.

Pedersen, who became world champion in Yorkshire, England in 2019, is only the third rider to have to get off his bike after about a third of the three-week national tour. Previously, his compatriot Casper Pedersen and the Italian Michele Gazzoli from Team Astana, including British stage win record holder Mark Cavendish, had left the tour.
