Tata Power has been witnessing a five-fold year-on-year jump in rooftop solar installations at around 25,000 per month, backed by the PM Surya Ghar scheme.
“We are installing on average 25,000 solar rooftops per month. There were 5,000 rooftop solar installations on average per month in the year-ago period. Two years ago, it was around 2000 per month,” Kaushik Sanyal, National Head- Group Captive & Enterprise Accounts, Tata Power, told businessline.
“For the rooftop solar segment, we have appointed channel partners or distributors. We have around 650 partners now across India. The huge year-on-year increase in installation is due to the PM Surya Ghar scheme, our efforts and the channel partners pan-India,” Sanyal said.
The Union Cabinet had in February 2024 approved PM-Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana with a total outlay of ₹75,021 crore for installing rooftop solar and providing free electricity up to 300 units every month for one crore households. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the scheme on February 13, 2024.
“Crossed 1.5 lakh rooftop solar installations, achieving 3 GW capacity across 700+ cities till date and maintaining the No.1 rooftop solar rank for 10 years,” Tata Power said in its annual report for FY25.
“With a strong pan-India presence, we accelerate solar adoption by offering end-to-end sales, service, and innovative solutions, powering a greener, more sustainable future for our consumers,” it added.
The company is also expanding its footprint in the home automation space. It launched the energy-efficient products under Home Automation Solutions in Kolkata on Tuesday.
Omi“We have identified 100 cities across India where we will be launching energy-efficient products, easy home products, to plpromote energy-efficient products across India. Our major objective is to optimise the electricity consumption, increase the livelihood by giving training to electricians. A person can automate his home by paying ₹2,005; no electrical connection, wiring, or switch needs to be changed,” Sanyal added.
